FAQ’s

Which vaccine are you administering at The Bennelong Medical Clinic?

AstraZeneca

Is the AstraZeneca vaccine safe?

Yes, the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and is the recommended vaccine for people over 60 years of age. The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends that people under 60 years of age receive the Pfizer vaccine.

This recommendation was made because of a rare side effect of the AstraZeneca vaccine called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia (TTS). There is a very low chance of this side effect (6.6 per 1000 doses) but it is more common in young people. Read more.

Patients of all ages who have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine without any serious side effects are strongly encouraged to receive their second dose.

Visit the Department of Health website for more information on the AstraZeneca vaccine.
