Skin Checks – Mole Mate | Skin Procedures | Acupuncture | Medicinal Cannabis | Workers Compensation
We are delighted to welcome Dr Ata Eshragi to The Bennelong Medical Clinic.
Dr Eshragi has over 4 decades of experience in General Practice and has been a practice owner in Maitland NSW. Dr Eshragi will be with us Monday – Wednesday and brings a unique skillset to the clinic with special interests in skin checks (including using mole mate technology), skin procedures, acupuncture, and prescribing medicinal cannabis.
Dr Eshragi’s journey to medicine is inspiring. His interest in medicine bloomed whilst growing up around his father’s pharmacy in Persia. Dr Eshragi explains “I wrote my first prescription at [the age of 9]. The story is, my father had a pharmacy and I started getting to know some of the medications. One day, on a piece of paper I wrote ‘Dr Ata Eshragi’ and prescribed a couple of medications and the instructions on how to administer them. Ten years later I was accepted into Medical School and graduated in 1976 in Persia. At the graduation ceremony, my father gave me that prescription. He said he found the piece of paper on the floor of the pharmacy and kept it for a day like today.”
After obtaining his medical degree, Dr Eshragi practiced in Persia for a number of years. However, due to civil conflict and the persecution of people of Baha’i faith, he and his family moved to the Philippines and ultimately Australia to avoid further threats to their lives.
Australia does not recognise medical degrees from Iran, so Dr Eshragi was forced to decide whether to pursue the gruelling demands of obtaining a second medical degree in a new country with a young family. But to Dr Eshragi, the decision was simple. “…my whole heart was in medicine and I couldn’t allow myself to choose another profession. For that reason, I decided to go back to the medical school which I did at the University of UNSW.”
After graduating for the second time, he worked in Sydney for 13 years and then moved to Maitland where he has practiced for the last 20 years. He has recently returned to Sydney to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Dr Eshragi’s passion for medicine and his patients is infectious, “working as a general practitioner is the most satisfying profession for me. My whole aim is to be able to provide the best possible service to my patients. I listen to them and feel their pain. As long as I can make them happy I am satisfied whole heartedly and I feel I have achieved my goals in my life”.
We look forward to Dr Eshragi joining us from mid April. Appointments are now available via Hotdoc.
Welcome Dr Eshragi!
